#MBFWJ 7-9 March 2013

This weekend went by in a complete whirl. Like the whirl of all the mesh skirts that I witnessed these past 3 days at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Joburg #MBFWJ. I was so fortunate to attain two photographer's tags for me and @markstry to attend and cover all the fabulous shows. Finally, finally I attended a ThulaSindi show. The man is an artist, I have been drooling over his twitpics since I've been on twitter and on Friday night my mind was blown beyond my expectations. Amazing. Amazing amazing amazing.

And Suzaan Heyns, oh wow Suzaan Heyns. Using recycling as an element in her work, her collection comprised a number of show stopping dresses made from cork. And this was my first show where I sat in the front row. You've never seen anyone so excited to be sitting on white melamine chair. And goodness, that is the absolute way to watch this kind of art on show.

David Tlale decided to allow the audience a chance to walk with his installation show of his latest collection, which was sold by the exterior of City Hall at 81 President Street in Joburg. And engraved on the steps of City Hall "WE WILL NEVER FORGET" and yes, absolutely, I will never never forget.

These upcoming colder seasons we can look forward to the military trend as Gavin Rajah had a helluva lot of fun with, and the utilitarian cut that also featured in Stefania Morland's collection. Across all collections there was a broad use of neutral tones, lots of greys, beige, cream, blush with splurges of the Autumn colour palette; green, purple, cobalt blue, burnt oranges and mustard.

I loved the textured detail of the hand-stitched ribbon that was first introduced on the runway in the Avant. show. There were some astounding creations using that technique in the Avant. collection and the ribbon texture featured in a number of designers' pieces.

Peplum is still doing the rounds this season, which is, as Kim K proved, to be a very flattering way of hiding extra pounds so it's perfect for that time of year where we turn to comfort food. And the mesh, gosh how I love the mesh. It's that similar love affair that I have for sheer is how I feel for lace and mesh.

Gold and all things shiny and sparkly, from embellishments, to sequins, to gem encrusted fabulousness, metallica is very much in for winter. A wonderful way to stimulate the neutral tones.

Karabo Gibbs wearing Moschino belt, strawberry collection skirt and "Mommy Vintage"sheer top. LOVE this look!

It was a truly magical experience for me, being backstage and meeting some of the designers. One of my funnier moments was meeting Lauren of Avant. and asking if I could feel the texture of her dress and finding myself first going for her chest - embarrassing much? Luckily I stopped myself half way and she was good humoured of my little faux pas.

I also gushed like a school girl groupie when grabbing
@ThulaSindi's attention for a super quick introduction. I was incredibly star struck and overwhelmed by his humility. I squealed to Cara when he thanked me for my tweet complimenting his show. Utterly obsessed.

I made a new friend, Vuvu, a fellow fashion blogger whom as fate would have it, I met sitting next to at the Thula Sindi show. He has such a cute pocket-chief, lilac with orange polka dots. I snapped him at Gavin Rajah's show, I really love his bowtie. I look forward to seeing him again soon soon. Check out his blog here.
